PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
